Welcome to the website for Chapter 974 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). The chapter is located at Butler County Regional Airport / Hogan Field (KHAO) in Hamilton, Ohio, in Hangar T5J.

The chapter is very active in building and restoring aircraft, as well as the EAA Young Eagles and Eagle Flight programs, and the FAA’s WINGS Weekend safety programs – delivering on the promise of supporting the Education and Recreation mission of the experimental aircraft rules.

The FAA’s rules regarding the Experimental Category of aircraft certification allows individuals (amateurs) to build their own aircraft for education and recreation. This rule has been extended to include purchased plans-built and kit aircraft, provided the amateur performs at least 51% percent of the building themselves. This allows our ‘home builder’ to construct modern aircraft that outperform ‘General Aviation’ aircraft such as Cessna’s and Pipers, and at significantly reduced cost. The chapter has significant composite construction experience and activity, as well as several rag and tube and metal projects. Our technical counselors include A&Ps, and we have ham radio experts and flight counselors as well! The chapter has significant construction experience and activity in many types of experimental/amateur-built projects. They range from the popular metal and composite kit planes, to several rag and tube projects, wood projects, and all manners of kit-built and plans-built planes in-between. Some members have even taken stabs at designing their own wing designs – truly fulfilling the experimental dream. Our technical counselors include A&Ps and professional mechanics with extensive backgrounds, and our general membership has knowledge on nearly all aspects of aviation and aircraft construction.

Meetings are generally held every first Sunday of the month at 2:00pm local Eastern time in the chapter hangar, with various scheduled outings and events throughout the year. And when we’re not meeting, we’re around the hangar and the airport at large, working on our projects, nearly every weekend. We encourage you to visit us at any time!
